The 93rd Academy Awards better known as the Oscar award presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), is the most prestigious and most coveted award in the field of entertainment around the world.

This year's Academy Award function was held on April 25, 2021, for the best films of 2020 and 2021. Although the nominations were announced on March 15, 2021, the event itself has held two months afterward than originally planned.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic,

  • No official winners of the Academy Honorary Award.
  • the awards were presented virtually and in person at Union Station and the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California for the first time in history since its inception.
  • Second Oscar Award function (first being the 6th Academy Awards) where films from two different years were considered for the single ceremony.
  • Governors Award ceremony was canceled and consolidated to the Oscar Ceremony.
  • An all-time low television viewership (approx. 9.85 million viewers).

  • Oldest Best Actor to win an Oscar Award – Anthony Hopkins (83 years old; The Father).
  • First woman of color to win Best Director Oscar – Chloé Zhao (Film: "Nomadland"; Chinese origin).
