The 127th edition of the French Open was held from May 22nd to June 11th, 2023.
As one of the four annual Grand Slam events, the French Open is unique in that it is the only one played on clay courts since 1978.
The clay surface slows down the ball and produces a higher bounce compared to grass or hard courts, making it widely recognized as the most physically demanding tennis tournament in the world.
In a historic moment at the French Open 2023, Novak Djokovic, the Serbian tennis player, triumphed in the men's singles final against Casper Ruud, winning in straight sets.
This victory marked Djokovic's 23rd Grand Slam title, including three French Open titles, surpassing Rafael Nadal's previous record of 22 Grand Slam titles. However, Nadal still holds the record for the most French Open titles won.
Djokovic also achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the first male player in tennis history to win each of the four Grand Slam events at least three times.
In the women's singles competition, 22-year-old Polish tennis player Iga ÅšwiÄ…tek secured her third French Open title by defeating Czech player Karolina Muchova.
ÅšwiÄ…tek's win also made her the youngest player since Serena Williams in 2002 to win four major titles.
The winners of the French Open 2023 in other categories were as follows:
Wang Xinyu and Hsieh Su-wei won the women's doubles title, Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek emerged as champions in the men's doubles event, and Miyu Kato of Japan and Tim Pütz of Germany claimed victory in the mixed doubles competition, defeating Bianca Andreescu of Canada and Michael Venus of New Zealand.
