The first Pope from the Americas, the first Jesuit Pope, and the first to take the name Francis in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, his papacy was marked by deep concern for the poor, migrants, and refugees.
He was buried on April 26, 2025, in a simple tomb at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, reflecting the humility that shaped his life and leadership.
