Important Update on Qualification of Electricity Workers / Electricity Worker Mazdoor (KSEB)
The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has decided to amend the qualification criteria for the post of electricity worker after 27 years.
This was due to the fact that the old qualifications were inconsistent with the provisions of the Central Electricity Authority (Measures of Safety and Electric Supply) Regulations, 2023.
The KSEB overhauled the Educational Qualifications while the Physical Qualifications remain more or less the same.
New Qualifications required for Electricity Workers
- Educational Qualification:
- Candidates must now have passed the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination or its equivalent. (Previous Qualification (July 1998): Candidates should have passed Class IV but should not have passed Class X)
- a two-year ITI trade certificate.
- Physical Standards:
- Minimum height for male candidates: 5 ft 2 inches (157.48 cm).
- Minimum height for female candidates: 4 ft 9 inches (144.78 cm).
- Candidates must also not be color blind and must be physically fit for outdoor work.
- License: a driving license for two-wheeler.
- Removal of Cycling Requirement: The requirement for 'knowledge of cycling,' which was previously compulsory for male candidates, has been removed.
Electricity workers are now expected to 'assist or substitute those extending technical assistance to the supervisors and engineers,' and 'work as per the instructions of superiors concerned.'
