On April 6, 2021, the general election for the 15th Kerala Ministry was held, and the LDF, led by Pinarayi Vijayan, won 99 out of 140 constituencies.

With 21 members, the Council took office on May 20, 2021. The remaining three (Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, K. Krishnan Kutty of Janata Dal, and A. K. Saseendran of NCP) were also part of the previous Pinarayi administration.

  • Largest Majority in the history of the  Kerala state assembly – K.K. Shailaja (60,963 votes, Mattannur constituency).
    • Previous record – M Chandran (47,671 votes, Alathur constituency, LDF).
  • Lowest Majority – Najeeb Kanthapuram (38 votes; Perinthalmanna constituency).
  • Pinaray Vijayan became the first chief minister in Kerala to be re-elected after completing a full term in office.
  • For the first time in Kerala Assembly history that a father-in-law (Pinarayi Vijayan) and son-in-law (P. A. Mohammed Riyas) would serve together in the House and the cabinet.
