he Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS) has announced the recipients of the National Sports Awards for 2025 on August 18, 2026. These prestigious awards will be presented at a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where President Droupadi Murmu will confer the honors.
These awards, celebrating outstanding achievements in sports, include:
- Arjuna Award
- Dronacharya Award
- Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award
- Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy.
- Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar
Notably, for the first time since 2014, no athlete was awarded the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award.
The winners were chosen from a vast pool of nominations by a Selection Committee chaired by a retired Supreme Court Justice Arun Kumar Mishra, along with distinguished athletes, sports journalists, and sports administrators as committee members.

The 'Dronacharya Award for Great Coaches in Sports and Games' is granted to coaches who consistently undertake outstanding and meritorious work and enable athletes to thrive in international competitions.
In 2025, two athletes earned the Dronacharya Award in the Lifetime Achievement category, while three athletes received the Dronacharya Award in the Regular category.

2. Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award Award 2025
The 'Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award' is awarded to a sportsperson for their remarkable and excellent accomplishment in sports during the past four years.
- First Awarded in – 1991.
- First Winner – Viswanathan Anand (Chess).
- Award – ₹25 lakh, certificate and a medallion.
- Former name – Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna (renamed on August, 2021)
- The Youngest Player to get Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna – Gukesh D (18 years old).

3. List of Arjuna Awards Winners 2025
This year, 17 athletes earned the Arjuna award for outstanding achievement in Sports and Games during the preceding four years, as well as for demonstrating traits of leadership, sportsmanship, and discipline.
It was the highest sports award in India before the introduction of Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award in 1991.
